On Saturday 24th March, JBG U16/18 team travelled to Kilmarnock, for friendly game against their u16/18’s. This was the JBG team’s first game away of the season. The team was captained by Marcus Dickson, assisted by Sean Coleman and Jordan Serigson. Although the JBG didn’t win they battled hard, didn’t give up and came away a better team for it.

After the first period Kilmarnock were leading 6-0, however the JBG continued fighting and with a few minutes into the second period, a quick pass from Karl Morgan to Adam Wilson, Adam took a shot at goal and scored a cracking goal, leaving it 6-1.

However Kilmarnock got another 2 quick goals and with a couple of minutes to go Andrew Hopkins7 scored a great goal assisted by Sean Coleman.

The final score was 9-2 to Kilmarnock. This score does not reflect the extremely hard work our net minders put in on the day. James Devine and David Juhascik were superb. Man of match for JBG was Sean Coleman

A big thank you to coaches Mark Morrison & Marc Edgar who travelled with team on the day and to team managers, Colin & Rosemarie

The club welcomed visiting team U16B – Sheffield Greyhounds, their parents and supporters, to Belfast on Friday 16th March.

After the Elite game between Stenaline Belfast Giants and Sheffield Steelers the Greyhounds made their way to Dundonald International Ice bowl where they shared ice time with the Junior Belfast Giants.

The teams met again on ice on St. Patrick’s Day at the Odyssey arena for an 11.30am face-off. This was the first match that the U16 Junior Giants had played and it was to be a test of nerve, skills and ability. The team was captained by Adam Robinson and assisted by Sean Coleman and Jordan Donnelly.

Within one minute of play Junior Belfast Giant number 26, Sean Coleman scored the first goal of the match, assisted by Adam Robinson and Jordan Donnelly. The Sheffield equaliser came five minutes later during a powerplay. Sheffield scored their second goal eight minutes before the end of play in the first period with their man of the match, Lewis Whitehouse scoring.

After a five minute break both teams were back on ice again battling for eleven minutes until Sheffield scored their third goal by number 18, Max Atkin. It was less than a minute later when Sean Coleman put the puck past the Sheffield netminder from the face-off position. Thirteen minutes later Junior Belfast Giant number 25, defence-man Jamie Scott took a shot from the blue line and scored. The score was three all at the end of the second period.

Number 53, netminder Chris Boyd, was replaced by number 9, David Juhascik at the start of the third period on ice with number 8 Lewis Whitehouse getting his name on the score sheet again.

Twelve minutes into the third period Sean Coleman scored a hat-trick assisted by Adam Robinson. The Junior’s had now taken the lead in the game until Sheffield equalised seven minutes later.

It was then the turn of Junior Belfast Giant number 17, Andrew Hopkins to work some magic on ice. Three minutes after the Sheffield equaliser Andrew scored the fifth goal from the face-off assisted by Josh Nicholl. Andrew secured the game for the Junior’s when he scored the sixth goal one minute later, unassisted.

A great game for both teams.

Final score – Junior Belfast Giants 6 - Sheffield Greyhounds 4

Man of the match awards – Number 8 Sheffield Greyhounds – Lewis Whitehouse
